“How can my child help your organization?”

Lots of ways! And any young helper joins our new Cool Kids Club

In our world, it’s cool to be compassionate, creative, and thoughtful. It’s super cool to learn and educate about animal rescue and to spend time doing something hard in order to help other creatures in need. That’s where our Cook Kids Club comes in.

For health and safety reasons, we are unable to allow children volunteers working onsite or interacting directly with dogs. Handling and caring for live animals that are going through a somewhat (or very) stressful period is a grownup’s job. However, there are a bunch of ways that kids of just about any age can help our rescue in a BIG way! Most of these ideas are engaging fundraisers because it takes a ton of money to save animals’ lives.

How the Cool Kids Club works:
1. Choose a way to help (either on this page or come up with your own idea).

2. Email your plans (and any questions) to samantha@socialteesnyc.org — we’ll get you added to our Cook Kids Club email list where we’ll update members about dogs we were able to help (or save!) thanks to your donations.

3. Once you’ve completed your project and made
your donation, we’ll thank you with a little Social Tees swag. :)

4. Once a quarter or so, we’ll host a small, quick get together so our Cool Kids Club members can meet a rescue dog or two, ask questions, and learn about how their contribution makes an impact on lives — canine and human. (Members who aren’t local can join by video call.)

Host a FUNdraiser! Many kids have set up lemonade stands and bake sales, or your child might think outside the box and come up with their own event — an iced coffee stand, a video game competition, a talent show… the possibilities are endless.

Make adoption posters that we can hang in our storefront office window. We’ll let you know which of our dogs need an extra boost, and your child can draw a picture of them and then write a few sentences about them (based on their adoption profile online). These get LOTS of adoring attention from passersby on the sidewalk.

Donate your birthday. Not the whole thing, of course — just part of it. Through ECHOage, you can create a party invitation, send it out to guests, and they make a donation — half goes to presents for your kid, half goes to our pups. You could also just collect monetary and material donations the good old fashioned way (at the door when guests arrive) and then deliver the donation in person.

Make thank you cards (blank) for us so that we can give them to foster parents, neighbors, and donors who help make sure we can keep this machine running.

Earn some allowance... and give it to our critters! Your kid can set a goal — let’s say $20 — and work with you to do some odd jobs around the house.

Hand out fliers. Design an informational handout that you can print and distribute to raise awareness about animal rescue. (Please show us a draft first before you start handing it out so we can make sure the info is accurate.) Kids must always be accompanied by a parent/guardian, of course. You’d be surprised at how many people who live just a block or two away from us don’t know about what we do.

Go door to door. First, email us (samantha@socialteesnyc.org) so we can send you a donation form to print up. Then take a stroll around your apartment building or neighborhood knocking on doors, explaining the cause you're supporting, and asking for donations.
